Our History
A Legacy of Growth and Collaboration
Founded in 1957, the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in shaping the economic landscape of our city. From its humble beginnings with 21 charter members paying $5 dues each, the Chamber has grown into a vital organization supporting local businesses and fostering community development.
The Chamber adopted the slogan “Bridge City is the Hub of the Golden Triangle” and incorporated officially on July 16, 1972. Over the years, it has played a crucial role in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life in Bridge City. The first business directory in 1960 included a diverse range of local enterprises, from beauty shops and barber shops to churches and construction companies, showcasing the community’s entrepreneurial spirit.
In 1996, the Chamber dedicated the Bridge City Historical Museum, housed in the former Prairie View Teacherage building, donated by the Bridge City Independent School District. This museum not only preserves the history of Bridge City but also serves as a cultural and educational resource for residents and visitors alike.
Today, the Chamber continues to thrive, recently adding “Visitors Center” to its name to better serve those seeking information about Bridge City. This addition underscores our commitment to promoting local businesses and enhancing the visitor experience, further cementing our role as a cornerstone of the community.
